Compliance Policy

At Kataoka Corporation, we seek to generate added value through fair competition and contribute to the economy by creating jobs. Moreover, we are devoted to cementing our position as a productive member of the community. To that end, we are determined to fulfil our responsibilities to society in Japan and around the world, wherein we vow to respect individuals' rights, comply with laws, regulations, and international rules in word and spirit, contribute to the development of a sustainable society, and maintain high ethical standards, all in accordance with the following policy.

  1. We will make compliance with laws, regulations, and society's ethical norms a central pillar of our business administration.
  2. We will earn and maintain customers' trust and satisfaction by developing and distributing safe products that serve a useful purpose for society.
  3. We will transact business fairly, transparently, and in a spirit of free competition; and we will maintain proper relations with administrative authorities.
  4. We will communicate with the broader community as with our shareholders, and proactively disclose proper corporate information as appropriate. We will engage in thorough information management to protect personal, client and other delicate information we handle.
  5. We will respect employee diversity and individuality, maintain non-discriminatory hiring practices, and educate our workforce on human rights issues. Moreover, we will maintain a safe, comfortable workplace in which employees can seek to thrive.
  6. Environmental issues are relevant to the entire human race, and we seek to play our part by making environmental protection an integral part of our continuity and our business activities.
  7. As a good corporate citizen, we will work proactively to make a genuine contribution to society.
  8. We firmly reject any association with—and will work against—criminal organizations and other groups that threaten the order and safety of society.
  9. We will strive to stay abreast of the globalization of business. In doing so, we will comply with the laws of all relevant countries and regions, and respect international norms on human rights and other issues. Moreover, as we conduct our business administration, we will consider different cultures, customs, and other points of stakeholder concern, thereby contributing to the development of our host communities.
  10. Our executives are constantly aware of their duty to embody and enact the spirit of this policy, and will lead employees and affiliates by example, and encourage clients to follow. We will always seek internal and external feedback so as to maintain a compliant in-house regime.
  11. Breaches of this policy will be visibly dealt with at the highest levels of management as an example to the whole company, wherein the root cause will be sought and identified, and measures implemented to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, we will release accurate information on such incidents to the public promptly, provide all appropriate explanations of liability and authority, and carry out whatever punishments are appropriate (of ourselves, if required).

President’s Statement on Power Harassment

Power harassment and sexual harassment is a breach of human rights, not only damaging the dignity and honor of the victim, but also damaging the workplace environment.

Government guidelines define six categories of power harassment.

  1. Assault or injury (physical abuse)
  2. Intimidation, defamation, insult, or slander (mental abuse)
  3. Isolation, ostracization, or neglect (cutting off from human relationships)
  4. Forcing an employee to perform certain tasks which are clearly unnecessary for the business or impossible to be performed, or interrupting with their normal duties (excessive work demands)
  5. Ordering an employee to perform menial tasks (insufficient work demands)
  6. Excessively inquiring into the private affairs of an employee (invasion of privacy)

Behavior like this must not be tolerated; if you believe harassment is taking place, contact the Whistleblower Hotline.

In keeping with the company philosophy, management policy, and the Kataoka Book, I will lead the effort to ensure Kataoka Corporation workplaces are safe, rewarding, and free from the scourge of harassment.

I urge you, too, to make an effort to ensure our workplaces are bright and friendly places where harassment is neither welcome nor tolerated.
